Arsenal told Mikel Arteta is "already a fantastic manager" by Man City star

Arsenal have received a glowing recommendation on Mikel Arteta – as Man City’s Gabriel Jesus branded him a “fantastic manager”.

Former Gunners skipper Arteta has been linked with the vacant managerial post at the Emirates, and is believed to be under consideration for the role.

The 37-year-old was interviewed for the position last year, but just missed out as Arsenal appointed Unai Emery instead.

Now the Man City assistant manager has been tipped to succeed sacked Emery, as City striker Jesus sung his praises.

“He’s helped a lot of players,” Jesus told Goal . “When I want to do finishing after training, I tell him and he comes and helps me.

“So he is really fantastic for us. All the players know that — everyone knows that in the club. He is a fantastic guy and fantastic manager.”

Arteta spent five years with Arsenal from 2011-16, before moving to the Etihad to become Pep Guardiola’s no.2.

A four-man panel has now been tasked with finding Arsenal’s next manager, with Freddie Ljungberg currently in charge on an interim basis.

Carlo Ancelotti and Patrick Vieira are also among the contenders.

Guardiola said of his assistant : “You can be a 45-year-old and believe you’re not ready (to become a manager) and 35 and believe you’re ready, only he knows.

“I’ve spoken about the situation a few weeks ago, there’s no more to add. I said two weeks ago, he’s got two weeks more experience, so he’s ready.”

Jesus added: “I don’t honestly know what he [Arteta] thinks about his career, that is for him. I hope he can find his way and I hope he can be happy.”

Arteta will return to his old stomping ground on Sunday with City as they face off in the Premier League.

City are desperately trying to chase down league leaders Liverpool , who are 14 points ahead, while Ljungberg is hoping to build on his first win as Arsenal boss against West Ham last Monday.
