Lisandro Martinez would favour a move to Manchester United over Arsenal, according to reports in Netherlands.

Arsenal have made three bids for the Argentina international with Ajax thought to be holding out for a fee close to £45million.

United were plotting a move for Martinez’s defensive partner Jurrien Timber but the Netherlands international appears committed to staying at Ajax for at least one more season.

Ten Hag is now keen for the club to sign the Argentine with Arsenal increasingly wary of the threat posed by United.

Martinez has expressed an interest in joining Arsenal but according to De Telegraaf, the 24-year-old has ‘placed his hopes’ on United.

The report from De Telegraaf journalist Marcel van der Kraan also claims there are likely to be ‘big developments’ on Martinez’s future within the next 48 hours.

A recent report from The Times also suggests United believe they can lure Martinez to Old Trafford despite interest from north London, confident his good relationship with ten Hag can help get the deal done.

Ten Hag is still eager to sign a defender and a versatile forward this summer with another Ajax star in Antony also on his wanted list.

United have been prioritising a move for Frenkie de Jong this month with the club agreeing a fee in principle for the Barcelona star.

The club have also agreed a deal to sign Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord.
