Arsenal target Jonathan David gives transfer update as he eyes Premier League

Arsenal target Jonathan David has given an update on his future as he revealed his ambition to play in the Premier League.

The Gunners have been linked with a summer transfer swoop for Gent hitman David, amid uncertainty over whether Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Alexandre Lacazette will still be at the Emirates next season.

But Arsenal would face competition for his signature, with Manchester United, Chelsea, Tottenham and Leicester City all reportedly interested in the 20-year-old, who has scored 18 league goals this season.

Now David has given his English suitors some good news, declaring he wants to switch to the Premier League and become one of the world’s top strikers – although he insisted he won’t move just to sit on the bench.

“Right now I’m playing almost every minute of every game and that has really helped me get to the level that I need to be,” said David in an interview with the Guardian.

“I just need to take a good step where I can make sure I am getting enough time on the pitch to keep developing.

“I don’t want to go somewhere and just stay on the bench so it’s about taking the right step. I want to become one of the best strikers in the world. That’s my goal.

“The Premier League is the best in the world and most competitive so obviously that is somewhere I would love to play in the future.”

David is contracted to Gent until 2023, but the Belgian club would be willing to cash in to the tune of around £17.5million, according to Metro.
