Emery was taking no risks on the striker aggravating the injury with Arsenal’s first game of the new Premier League season against Newcastle just two weeks away.

Lacazette immediately went down the tunnel after he was withdrawn from play and was later seen with a protective boot on his left leg.

Former Sevilla boss Emery played down the severity of the injury, as he claimed there is nothing he is concerned about.

Speaking after the match, he said: “The doctor said to me he’s going to check tomorrow… it’s in his ankle.

“He’s going to be assessed over the next few days – it’s not serious.”

It was a disappointing afternoon for the North London side, as fans booed Shkodran Mustafi as he made his way onto the pitch.

While summer signing Dani Ceballos had his name spelt wrong on the official team sheet.

Speaking of his side’s defeat against Lyon, Emery said: “We defended well in the first half but in the second half we switched off.

“The focus and concentration maybe wasn’t there as much in the second half.

“We were winning and playing very well… but we lost. We’re going to work and watch to improve.”
