Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock says he was determined to impress against Molde after being left out of the squad to face Manchester United on Sunday. Willock scored and put in a fine all-round performance as Arsenal beat Norwegian champions Molde 4-1 at the Emirates on Thursday to make it three wins from three in the Europa League so far this season.
Willock is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League so far this term.
The 21-year-old impressed in the win over Dundalk last Thursday but was not included in the 18-man squad to play United at Old Trafford.
Willock insists he is taking each game as it comes and trusts Arteta will pick him when he deserves it.
But he admits being left out at United was inspiration for him to perform against Molde.
“We had to stick with it and I thought we stuck to the game plan, we didn’t get frustrated and we came out on top.
“[For my goal] it broke for us and Nico looked up, he passed it to me and I wasn’t making a mistake with that one.
“I had a couple of chances early on so I thought this is my time to score and it went in and I was happy to get myself another goal.”
Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half.
But it was Willock, not Nketiah, who was in an offside position.
“I’m not too sure, I haven’t watched it back,” Willock said.
“But Eddie snuck in front of me and he scored, I didn’t think he was offside.
“I didn’t know if I was offside but I didn’t think Eddie was offside.”
