Arsenal have set their asking price for Shkodran Mustafi after Monaco registered an interest in signing the defender.
Mustafi arrived in north London with a promising reputation after completing a £35million move from Valencia to Arsenal back in 2016, but the 27-year-old centre-back has struggled to win over the club’s fan base after a series of high-profile mistakes.
During Arsenal’s Emirates Cup defeat to Lyon at the weekend, supporters even began booing Mustafi as he came on as a second-half substitute for Calum Chambers.
The Gunners have looked to offload Mustafi in almost every transfer window since his arrival and it appears the Germany international has finally been offered a potential escape route.
According French publication L’Equipe, Monaco have made an enquiry to sign the error-prone central defender. The report claims Arsenal have slapped a €30m (£27m) price tag on Mustafi.
It’s understood Unai Emery told Arsenal’s hierarchy to sell Mustafi following the club’s Europa League final defeat to Chelsea in Baku.
AC Milan were heavily linked with Mustafi back in May but the German rubbished the rumours, insisting his future was with Arsenal.
‘It is odd that there are always transfer speculations,’ the former Sampdoria man told Kicker.
‘I am an Arsenal player and have a contract until 2021.’
Arsenal completed a deal for 18-year-old defender William Saliba earlier this month, but the Frenchman has been loaned back to Saint-Etienne for the upcoming season.
Unai Emery insists that Arsenal are working to sign players ‘who will improve the squad’ ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
‘The club is thinking on how we can improve,’ the Spaniard said following Arsenal’s defeat to Lyon.
‘There are different players on the table. [Nicolas] Pepe’s a very good player. We only want players who can really, really improve the squad.
‘We want the best players possible for the first game at Newcastle.’
