Arsenal are preparing to sit down with highly-rated youngster Matteo Guendouzi over an improved contract to keep him at the Emirates Stadium.

The 20-year-old was a near ever present under former manager Unai Emery, and has continued to get minutes under new boss Mikel Arteta.

According to Football.London, the Gunners are planning to discuss terms with the midfielder at the end of the season.

Guendouzi is currently on the £40,000-a-week deal offered when he joined from French second division side FC Lorient in 2018.

The club are willing to propose a substantially increased wage in line with the France Under-21 international’s senior role in the squad.

Since being brought in for just £7.2million by former Gunners head of recruitment Sven Mislintat, Guendouzi has made over 54 league appearances.

The promising youngster’s contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2022, but a higher salary may convince him to commit his future to the Gunners.

The former Paris Saint-Germain academy player has been the subject of interest from the French champions since his move to north London.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been maligned for letting players run down their contracts and leave for free, such as Welshman Aaron Ramsey who joined Serie A side Juventus last season.
