Arsenal are hoping to persuade Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to sign a new contract with the club by offering him a deal which includes huge Champions League related bonuses.

The 30-year-old has been a huge success in north London since making a £56m move from Borussia Dortmund in 2018, winning the Premier League Golden Boot in his first full season.

Aubameyang was linked with a move to major clubs across Europe as well as cash-rich teams in China during the summer transfer window but elected to stay at Arsenal instead.

The Gabonese striker is contracted to Arsenal until 2021 but the club are hoping to get him to commit his future beyond then by offering him a bonus if they finish in the top-four.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal are unable to offer Aubameyang a basic package that would match top-earner Mesut Ozil’s wages but will include lucrative incentives in any potential deal.

Aubameyang is reportedly earning £200,000 per week at the Emirates, while Ozil is said to be on an enormous £350,000 per week.

Unai Emery admitted that the club have entered into discussions with Aubameyang over a new contract and the Telegraph reports that there is optimism on both sides that an agreement can be reached.

Aubameyang has scored 43 times in 67 games for Arsenal and has netted the winning goal in each of their opening two Premier League games of the season against Newcastle United and Burnley.

His goal on the opening day of the season took him to 33 goals in 50 Premier League matches making him the joint-fifth most prolific goalscorer after a half-century of games in the competition’s history.
