There is set to be a battle for Jesse Lingard’s signature this summer, with Arsenal ready to fight it out with West Ham to sign the midfielder from Manchester United.

The 28-year-old joined the Hammers on loan in January and has been in sensational form since then, scoring six goals in eight Premier League games as they continue their unlikely bid for a Champions League spot.

Lingard had not played a single minute of Premier League football in the first half of the season at Manchester United but has slotted in beautifully under David Moyes at the London Stadium.

While there was talk of him leaving Old Trafford for as little as £10m, his performances and subsequent recall to the England squad, mean that he is likely to now set a buying club back around £30m in the summer.

With just one year remaining on his United contract, he is likely to leave in the summer, and the Daily Star reports that it is going to be a scrap between West Ham and Arsenal to tempt him to sign.

The Gunners were keen to snap him up on loan in January but were turned down as the Red Devils saw them as more of a direct threat in the Premier League.

It has turned out to be the Hammers who are the better side this season, ironically, but both London clubs will return to battle for Lingard on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

West Ham did not have an option to buy in their loan agreement and David Moyes admitted last month that nothing has changed in Lingard’s situation.

‘We have not thought about that really, we have not taken it any further at the moment,’ Moyes said in March.

‘We have him on loan and he is doing a good job for us just now, I think we will discuss that and probably look at it at the end of the season.

‘But it is not something that we have taken any further than the situation we are in just now.’
