Arsenal 'one of seven clubs' in transfer race for Gent striker Jonathan David

Arsenal have joined a strong list of clubs tracking Gent’s prolific striker Jonathan David, according to reports.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a fruitful season in front of goal so far for the Belgian outfit, notching 21 goals and providing 10 assists in 35 appearances.

The Gunners’ Premier League rivals Leicester and Everton are both keeping tabs on the Canadian international, while there is also interest from abroad.

RB Leipzig, Napoli, Lazio and Lyon are all rumoured to be keen on David’s signature, with the latter previously expressing interest in January.

Jeunes Footeaux report Lyon will now prepare a fresh bid this summer, but Arsenal are expected to compete for David’s services.

Lyon have been identifying potential replacements for Moussa Dembele, who could leave the club this summer amid interest from Chelsea.

A similar scenario is facing Leipzig, who face a struggle to retain Timo Werner, with Liverpool weighing up an offer.

Arsenal are fairly well stocked in attack, but with the contracts of aging stars Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette running down, Mikel Arteta has been considering other options.

David’s versatility has impressed Gunners scouts, due to his ability to play anywhere across the front line, as well as off the lead striker in an attacking midfield role.
