Arsenal made it clear from the outset that they would take their time appointing Emery’s permanent successor due to their faith in Freddie Ljungberg.
“Because of our confidence in Freddie we’re very fortunate that we’re going to be entering into our process and doing a thorough search and it’s about finding the right candidate, it’s not about finding the first candidate,” Josh Kroenke said.
That belief in the Swede will be tested over the coming days and weeks, though, following a poor start under the caretaker boss which has seen Arsenal draw at Norwich and lose at home to Brighton.
The main managers in the frame to take over are Mikel Arteta, Massimiliano Allegri and Mauricio Pochettino.
