Arsenal have made a bid for young Ituano forward Gabriel Martinelli, according to reports in Brazil.

Martinelli, 17, who has scored ten goals in 31 appearances for Sao Paulo-based club Ituano, had a trial with Manchester United two years ago and actually featured in a youth match against Lincoln City.

While United decided against signing Martinelli back in 2017, the teenager’s recent goalscoring exploits have caught the attention of another Premier League giant in Arsenal.

Leeds United, Middlesbrough and Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on the promising attacker.

However, Fox Sports Brasil claims that Arsenal are best placed to land Martinelli and have launched a €6million (£5m) offer for the striker.

Ituano are yet to decide on an asking price for Martinelli but are likely to drive a hard bargain for their prized possession.

Martinelli is set to obtain an Italian passport when he turns 18 in June which would open the door to him completing a move to Arsenal.

Marcos Casseb, Martinelli’s agent, admitted earlier this month that his client has ambitions to join a big European club in the not-so-distant future.

‘To be honest we expected this to happen,’ Casseb told Globo Esporte when asked about the growing interest in Martinelli.

‘His evolution since last year is very fast, he is above average.

‘The initial planning is for him to go straight to Europe.’
