Arsenal have made an approach to land Real Betis star Nabil Fekir in the summer transfer window, according to reports.

The 26-year-old has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and looked destined to join Liverpool last summer but the deal collapsed due to concerns over his injury record.

The Gunners also flirted with the idea of signing Fekir but the attacking midfielder favoured a switch to La Liga over the Emirates.

Fekir, who was part of Didier Deschamps’ World Cup-winning squad in 2018, ended up completing a £17.7million switch to Betis and the Frenchman has scored seven goals in 22 appearances in La Liga this term.

However, it appears Fekir could be set for the exit door at Betis just 12 months later, with Arsenal plotting an ambitious move for the attacking midfielder.

According to The Daily Star, the Gunners have identified Fekir as a potential replacement for Dani Ceballos and the report claims an enquiry has been made for the France international.

Ceballos looks likely to return to Real Madrid when his loan deal with Arsenal expires in the summer and Mikel Arteta is scouring the Spanish league to bolster his options in central midfield.

Reports earlier this week claimed Arteta also has an eye on Carlos Soler after the Spaniard’s impressive start to the campaign with Valencia.

It’s understood the La Liga outfit would be willing to part with the midfielder for a fee of £30million.

Arsenal have not ruled out possibility of signing Ceballos permanently this summer but Arteta admits talks are yet to take place over such a deal.

‘We haven’t had any discussions about it,’ the Arsenal head coach said.

‘I’m really happy with Dani and what he’s bringing to the team right now.

‘It took him a while after his injury to get to the level that he has and that I’ve seen in the past. He’s performing much better now and that’s why he’s playing much more games.’
