Arsenal’s former head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is said to have recommended the player to Gunners chiefs after working with him at Dortmund in his previous role there.

He made 30 appearances for BVB last season, contributing three goals in 17 starts as Dortmund ran Bayern Munich close for the title.

The left-sided winger also earned his first international call-up for Denmark towards the end of the campaign, before representing the under-21’s at the European Championships.

Bruun-Larsen even found the net with a superb goal in his side’s group stage fixture with Serbia, but couldn’t help them progress to the next round.

Dortmund signed Bruun-Larsen as a 16-year-old, when Klopp was the boss, beating Liverpool’s rivals Everton to snap him up from Lyngby.

Now all three clubs have upped their interest in the player, who is rated at £15 million, although Dortmund are not thought to be keen on selling unless they receive a major offer.

Meanwhile Arsenal face a battle to keep Man Utd from poaching their own player, as the Red Devils weigh up a bid for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The former Dortmund striker has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the Gunners thought to be open to the idea of selling the 30-year-old.

Arsenal have slapped a £56 million asking price on Aubameyang however, which they would look to reinvest in other areas of the squad.
