Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has warned Harry Kane that securing transfer away from Tottenham is no guarantee of the silverware he craves.

The England skipper made his intentions clear earlier this week in a wide-ranging interview with his former international coach Gary Neville, during which he confirmed his intention to seek crunch talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy over the summer.

The Tottenham supremo is said to be furious with Kane’s decision to go public and has made it clear privately that he has no intention of selling the club’s prize asset.

Kane’s phenomenal goalscoring record has seen him cement a reputation as one of world football’s most prolific strikers, but team silverware has continued to elude him having endured a number of near misses, the most recent of which came in last month’s Carabao Cup final defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

The 27-year-old dropped a hint over his preferred destination in conversation with Neville, revealing his admiration for Kevin De Bruyne, but the champions’ local rivals United, as well as Chelsea, remain in the hunt.

While that trio looked well placed to compete for the biggest domestic and European honours, Henry has reminded Kane that the grass is not necessarily greener on the other side.

He told beIN Sports: ‘He had the opportunity to win silverware with Tottenham, people forget that. He actually was in situations, he was in finals with Tottenham. So he had that opportunity.

‘A player of that magnitude and talent, it will be a shame if he doesn’t win something. But it’s not a given, but he knows that. He had the situation to win titles and trophies with Tottenham.

‘I think about the year Leicester won it, Tottenham didn’t when it was open to them to do it. Again, cup finals, Champions Leauges, he had the opportunity. But I understand for what he has given to Tottenham and the player that he is, or maybe was for him, I’m not going to speak too quick but he is a hell of a player.

‘It’s like the same thing when people wanted Stevie G to win the league because just the type of player he was, people thought it was going to be the normal thing for him before he retired.

‘It’s still a long way for Harry Kane to retire, that’s not what I wish on him , but he deserves to win something.’
