Arsenal are leading the race to sign Lille winger Nicolas Pepe after submitting a new, reports claim.

The 24-year-old, who scored 22 goals in 38 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, is coveted by several top clubs around Europe, with Liverpool and Manchester United both monitoring his situation.

Napoli are also in the hunt for his signature but have fallen behind the Gunners, who are ready to match Lille’s £72million valuation in order to bring the Ivory Coast international to the Premier League, according to Sky Italia.

A new offer has been tabled by Gunners transfer chiefs, while they want to tie him down to a five-year deal at the Emirates.

Napoli remain determined to sign him, with talks ongoing, but Arsenal have shot to the head of the queue and are hoping to strike an agreement with Pepe in time for the start of the season.

He would be their fourth signing of the summer after Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos, Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli and centre-back William Saliba – who is being loaned back to Saint-Etienne for the 2019/20 season.

It was reported that Unai Emery would only have a budget of £40m this summer after failing to guide the Gunners back to the promised land of the Champions League but Arsenal bosses look set to heavily back him and bring Pepe to the club.
