Freddie Ljungberg was full of praise for Liverpool’s transfer business, but hinted he would not be involved in any signings Arsenal might make in January.

Arsenal are not expected to have a busy January, with the appointment of a new full-time boss at the top of the agenda for the club board.

Ljungberg is in temporary charge and fans will be hoping for new faces in January, although the interim boss said he has not been consulted about any potential signings.

‘Liverpool have been extremely good in the transfer market,’ he said.

‘They see something they need, they go in big and get it. They have had some tremendous success.

‘Of course, part of football is the transfer market but I’m working on a day-to-day basis. There have been no discussions with me about transfers.

‘I’d like to think about planning long-term for this and that but I can’t because it’s a day-to-day job and I try not to tease my brain that way.’

While Arsenal concentrate their efforts on finding a new boss, Liverpool are set to confirm their first signing of the January window.

RB Salzburg star Takumi Minamino is poised to join the Reds on 1 January in a bargain £7.25million deal, after Liverpool committed to paying his release clause.
