Arsenal handed Kieran Tierney transfer boost after Napoli make decision public

Arsenal have been given a free run at Celtic captain Kieran Tierney after Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti admitted he’s not interested in the Hoops star.

The Partenopei have been linked with Gunners target Tierney throughout the summer.

But ex-Chelsea chief Ancelotti insisted after Sunday’s 3-0 win over Liverpool at Murrayfield that, despite his admiration of the 22-year-old, Tierney isn’t on his radar this summer.

“Am I aware of Kieran Tierney? I know him and he is a really good player,” declared Ancelotti.

“He is a really good young left back but he is a Celtic player.

“We are looking for a lot of players for this coming season but he is a Celtic player and we have two good left backs.

“But honestly I can say he is a really good player.”

Tierney is currently recovering from a double hernia operation and hasn’t played for Neil Lennon’s side during pre-season.

Arsenal are hoping to seal a deal for the Scotland international left-back, with talks ongoing with the Bhoys over the terms of a potential £25million transfer to north London.

Two offers at the £25million mark have been rejected by the Scottish see thus far, due to the proposed payment structure and potential add-ons.

Emery, speaking after the Emirates Cup loss to Lyon, has made it clear he is keen to land Tierney, one of the club’s top targets.

“We are deciding how we can improve,” admitted the Gunners boss. “At the beginning we were thinking only to do player but only if we can really improve in this position.

“We are going to do that. Really I want a team better than last year with players who can achieve and add to us this season.

“We have a very good team. I only want players who can help us with improving the squad.”
