Arsenal fear they won't be able to offload outcast Mesut Ozil in January

Arsenal fear they will be unable to offload £350k-a-week outcast Mesut Ozil in January – as they are concerned he won’t go out on loan.

Ozil was left out of the squad for Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Monday night, and has started just one Premier League game so far this season.

That has led to speculation he will be shipped out when the transfer window opens again in January after becoming a bit-part player under manager Unai Emery.

His omission from the Old Trafford clash led former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour to predict that Ozil’s Gunners career is over – although Ozil was named captain for the Gunners’ Carabao Cup demolition of Nottingham Forest last week.

The former Germany international could go out on loan in the new year, but his huge wages are set to be a stumbling block, as the 30-year-old’s mammoth salary makes him Arsenal’s top earner.

And the Gunners also fear that the World Cup winner won’t want to go on loan and will sit tight, according to the Mail .

The publication says Arsenal are ready to loan him out in the new year even if they have to pay part of his huge paypacket.

Ozil is contracted until the summer of 2021, and is thought to be happy in London – although he endured a security ordeal over the summer when he and teammate Sead Kolasinac were victims of an attempted carjacking by knife-wielding thugs.

Getting Ozil off the club’s wage bill would be a huge help in renewal negotiations with star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Aubameyang’s equaliser against United on Sunday was his seventh goal of the season, and it is expected he will be offered a new deal that would take him closer to Ozil’s wage.

The Mail says the Gabon international would also be in line for a salary increase if Arsenal qualify for next season’s Champions League.

The Gunners are also in talks over a contract extension for Alexandre Lacazette.
