Arsenal fans are collectively calling for David Alaba to join them this summer after Bayern Munich completed a club-record deal for Lucas Hernandez.
Last week, Alaba admitted that he’s open to the idea of leaving Bayern and, in the candid interview, the 26-year-old left-back once again raised the fact that he’s a lifelong Arsenal.
‘I was [an Arsenal fan as a child]. When you’ve been an Arsenal fan as a kid you will be one your whole life in some way,’ he said.
The Austrian, who has won a Champions League and seven Bundesliga titles with Bayern, has also made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League one day.
So when the German giants wrapped up a deal for Atletico Madrid left-back Hernandez on Wednesday, Gooners immediately began dreaming about the prospect of Alaba arriving in north London.
Hernandez has long been linked with a move to the Allianz Arena and Bayern finally got their man for a club-record fee of €80million (£68m).
The France World Cup-winner has signed a five-year contract with Niko Kovac’s side and will join up with his new team-mates ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
Hernandez, though, is not necessarily a straight replacement for Alaba as Bayern as both players are capable of playing in a number of positions.
Alaba has played across the back four and is also comfortable in central midfield, while Hernandez has experience at centre-half as well as at left-back.
However, this didn’t stop Arsenal supporters getting excited…
