Arsenal fans are ‘in for a treat’ once they complete the signing of Nicolas Pepe, according to the Ivory Coast international’s Lille teammate Jose Fonte.

Unai Emery is on the cusp of completing a major coup, pipping the likes of Liverpool, Napoli and Bayern Munich for one of Europe’s most coveted wingers.

The 24-year-old scored 23 goals in all competitions last season, as Lille finished as runners-up in Ligue 1, comfortably securing Champions League qualification.

Despite reports claiming Emery was working under a heavily restricted budget, Arsenal appear to have found the finances that will see them smash their transfer record for the third time in two years and Fonte, formerly of Southampton and Crystal Palace, is confident Pepe will be worth the money.

He told talkSPORT: He’s incredible if he can reach the same level, which I believe he will, which he did with Lille last season then Arsenal fans will be very happy.

‘He is super quick, he has a left foot which is silky, one vs one he is second to none.

‘He finishes really good, he takes penalties, he takes free kicks, he is a very, very accomplished player and I think Arsenal fans will be in for a treat for sure.’

Speaking about Arsenal’s transfer plans following Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Lyon, Emery hinted his work in the transfer market this summer was far from complete and admitted he was already a fan of Pepe.

‘We are working, the club, and also thinking about how we can improve. There are different players on the table with the possibility that we can achieve their signature.

‘Pepe is a very good player and also we are thinking only of players who can really, really improve this squad and also give us some different conditions to improve.

‘The same, we are working for the last few weeks and before starting the season in the first match in Newcastle, our aim is to get the best team with the best players in our squad.’
