Arsenal fans call on Gunners to ‘Announce Umtiti’ as Barcelona defender is spotted at Emirates for Man Utd clash

Umtiti, 26, continues to be linked with a move out of the Nou Camp as he struggles for first-team minutes.

The French defender has played just seven times for Ernesto Valverde’s team this season.

The Spanish boss has used Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet as his preferred centre-back pairing.

World Cup winner Umtiti has long been linked with a move to the Prem, with Arsenal and Man Utd the two clubs most consistently linked with his signature.

It was reported in the summer that Umtiti might move to the Emirates – Alexandre Lacazette sending a joke plea – but the Gunners couldn’t afford him after spending £72million on Nicolas Pepe.

They later added David Luiz as defensive reinforcements.

Umtiti said in September he didn’t know how true the links with Arsenal were.

He said: “‘To be honest, I don’t know if they had conversations with my agent, I just told him that I didn’t care what was happening this summer and that it wasn’t even necessary to talk to me about it.”

He landed a further blow in November when he said he wants to return to boyhood club Lyon one day – although that could be later in his career.

Arsenal fans have now lost their heads with Umtiti inside the stadium.

There were a sea of “Announce Umtiti” tweets.

However, some fans warned caution, with Umtiti believed to be a regular at the stadium as a guest of best pal and former team-mate Lacazette.
