Arsenal have enquired about Harry Maguire just hours after Manchester United lodged a £70million bid for the defender, reports say.

The Leicester City defender is wanted by United and Manchester City this summer and is valued at a whopping £85m.

Maguire is thought to be open to the idea of switching club, but will not force his way out of Leicester.

United are the current frontrunners, but the Sun claim Arsenal have now entered the transfer race.

However, Arsenal are only willing to pay £50m for the centre-back – a huge £35m less than Leicester are asking for.

Leicester have rejected United’s bid for Maguire and are set to dismiss Arsenal’s enquiry.

Arsenal have found negotiations difficult with rival clubs this summer, with Crystal Palace reacting furiously to their £40m offer for Wilfried Zaha.

Palace want closer to £80m for Zaha and were baffled to receive Arsenal’s offer of £40m, which they wanted to pay over installments over several years.
