Arsenal have already decided to make Pablo Mari’s stay permanent this summer, according to reports in Brazil.

Last month, the Gunners agreed to pay a fee of €5 million (£4.2m) to sign Mari on loan from Flamengo and the deal includes an option to sign the 26-year-old permanently at the end of the season.

Mari has yet to make his debut for Mikel Arteta’s side but he did feature for Arsenal’s Under-23s against Chelsea earlier this month as he looks to regain his fitness.

But according to Coluna do Fla, Arsenal have already indicated to Flamengo that they will take up their option to permanently sign Mari this summer.

The report also claims that the deal could cost up to €16 million (£13.5m) after performance-related add-ons.

Speaking last week, Arteta admits he has been surprised by Mari’s commitment levels.

‘When he joined the club he hadn’t played for a long time and he had a little niggle as well when he joined us, but his attitude and commitment has been really, really good and highly surprising,’ said the Arsenal manager.

‘He did really well the other day and hopefully we can start to use him soon.’
