Arsenal chief Edu responds to Everton Soares transfer speculation

New Arsenal technical director Edu has offered a direct response to questions over their pursuit of Everton Soares.

The Brazil winger has been linked with a move to the Emirates after starring in the Copa America.

He worked with Edu at the tournament before the former player departed his role with the national team to rejoin the Gunners to work above Unai Emery.

Everton has been tipped as an alternative target to Wilfried Zaha with a move from Gremio likely to cost less than half what Crystal Palace are demanding for their star man.

After being stopped by an Arsenal fan on their US tour and asked if Everton was any closer to joining the Gunners, Edu declared: “let’s see, let’s see” and delivered a wry smile.

Whilst Everton was not considered a priority, their stalemate over Zaha could cause Arsenal to step up their interest.

The Gremio ace recently fuelled rumours by confirming he had an offer on the table before following new Arsenal signing Gabriel Martinelli on Instagram .

His wife, Isa Ranieri, also posted footage of him appearing to be learning English on Instagram.

He has previously been linked with Manchester City , and after a win over Vasco da Gama for Gremio earlier this month provided an update on his future.

“I do not guarantee that I will play against Bahia on Wednesday. We will see.”
