With Sunday’s North London Derby postponed at just 24 hours notice, Arsenal have had to endure a weekend of finger-pointing aimed at them.

The Gunners played Liverpool on Thursday night but a Granit Xhaka sending off and injuries picked up over the course of the 90 minutes meant that the club were unable to get a squad together for their meeting with Spurs – despite having only Martin Odegaard suffering from Covid..

The game being called off has seen a number of league clubs question the ongoing situation at the league in regards to which games are called off and why.

And Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has admitted that the large volume of games being delayed is ‘damaging the integrity of the Premier League.’

Postponement angers rival clubs

Arsenal asking the Premier League to postpone their fixture against Tottenham has not gone down well with rival clubs.

Only one player had tested positive for Covid and yet the league accepted the Gunners’ request and teams have since complained that the rules have been abused.

Teams over the past few weeks have had postponement requests rejected and Mirror Sport understands that clubs are frustrated at what they perceive to be a lack of clarity.

Given the amount of absences Arsenal currently have, they were within their rights to make the request and another player did test positive on Saturday.

Arteta questions league cancellations

Though he asked for the game to postponed, Mikel Arteta has admitted the league has an integrity problem but insisted it was there before Sunday’s cancellation.

Burnley v Leicester City was also called off on Saturday, meaning the Clarets have five games in hand on some teams.

And Arteta believes the situation is getting out of hand, leaving the league in a negative light.

The Gunners boss said: “We have already reached a point where postponing games is damaging the integrity of the Premier League.”

Arsenal seek Arthur loan

As attention turns back towards the pitch, Arsenal head into their next slate of games severely lacking options in midfield.

Granit Xhaka was sent off against Liverpool while Thomas Partey is away at the African Cup of Nations.

An attempt to solve the shortage in the middle of the park has been made, as the club look set for fresh talks with Juventus over a loan deal for Brazilian midfielder Arthur.

Reports in Italy suggest the Old Lady are reluctant to part ways with Arthur unless they can find a replacement before the window closes in two weeks.
