Arsenal and Everton face paying hefty compensation fee to land Carlo Ancelotti

Arsenal and Everton could face paying hefty a compensation fee to land Carlo Ancelotti as both Premier League outfits search for new managers.

Both clubs have been linked with former Chelsea boss Ancelotti after his departure from Napoli was announced on Tuesday night.

Ancelotti is believed to be high on Arsenal’s shortlist as they look for a replacement for Unai Emery – although the Italian is just one of around 10 candidates the Gunners want to sound out.

Everton have also made contact with Ancelotti after Marco Silva was sacked last week.

But whether either club moves for the 60-year-old is likely to depend on how much compensation they would have to pay – with discussions ongoing in Italy as to whether Ancelotti has been sacked or placed on gardening leave.

Carlo Ancelotti says goodbye to the Napoli players – but the terms of his departure were still being discussed on Wednesday

The specific terms of Ancelotti’s departure were still being finalised during discussions on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail .

If it transpires he has been sacked, that will simplify the situation for both Arsenal and Everton, as they will be able to land the three-times Champions League winner for free.

However, if Ancelotti has been placed on gardening leave and therefore remains on Napoli’s payroll, the Serie A club will be due a large slice of compensation.

The Mail says Ancelotti is likely to favour a move to Arsenal over Everton, due to the profile of the club and the fact he still has a house in London from his time as Chelsea manager.
