Aron Eisenberg dead: Star Trek actor dies at 50

Star Trek actor Aron Eisenberg has died aged 50.

The telly star is best known for playing Nog in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

The tragedy comes just months after he married in secret and the sad news was confirmed by his widow, Malissa Longo.

In a post on Facebook, she wrote: “It is with extreme regret and sadness to announce that my love and best friend, Aron Eisenberg, passed away earlier today,”  she wrote.

“He was an intelligent, humble, funny, emphatic soul. He sought to live his life with integrity and truth.”

The pair married in December and Malissa admitted they’d kept their nuptials private.

She added: “We didn’t officially announce that we had eloped on December 28th, 2018.

“We were hoping to have a big shindig in celebration of our nuptials, but had to wait to save up the money…

“While our marriage, on paper, was a short one,” she writes, “our hearts had been married for far longer. I will be forever thankful for the time we had to love each other.”

No more details about his death have been confirmed, but Aron is said to have had a long struggle with health problems.

Back in 2015, he told StarTrek.com he was born with just one defective kidney and underwent his first transplant at 17.

He had another operation in2015 to replace the kidney that had started to fail, raising money from a GoFundMe campaign to fund the surgery.

However, he was struck with more health troubles as the second kidney also failed and he had to undergo another transplant later that year.

As well as working on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, he also featured in Star Trek: Renegades and Star Trek: Voyager.

His character Nog was a Ferengi and appeared in more than 40 episodes of the series.
