Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed that the first Terminator film had such a small budget they often performed stunts without permits.

Thirty-five years after the first film hit cinemas, Arnie and Linda Hamilton are back for a new film which is a direct sequel to Terminator 2: Judgment Day but speaking of their memories of the first movie, shot in the early 1980s, Arnie admitted that the production was a little more ramshackle than you may expect.

‘It was a small budget movie, it was an independent movie with $6.5 million and we had to do certain shots in Hollywood without permits,’ he said.

‘I remember one time I got out the car and they said “go across the street here, Sunset, and punch the car, we need the shot”.’

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Linda added: ‘We didn’t even own the car!’

‘So I walked across the street and looked Terminator-esque and then looked around and – boom – punched through the window and that’s the way we shot the first movie,’ revealed Arnie.

The 63-year-old actress, who left Los Angeles a few years ago to move to New Orleans, admitted it took a lot for her to come out of acting retirement to reprise her role as Sarah Connor.

‘It wasn’t the script but just the thought of returning to this whole, big thing again after living such a quiet, normal life for so long,’ she told The Sunday Post.

‘Then there is the thought of being compared to yourself as you were back then. That’s not easy for anyone but in the end, I knew I had to do it.’

Terminator: Dark Fate will hit cinemas on Wednesday 23 October 2019.
