Ariana revealed that Breathin’ was almost called Ball Slapper (Picture: Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for AG)

Breathin’ might be one of Ariana Grande’s most beautiful and emotive songs, but is could all have been so different if she had gone with the first name they had for it.

Ari, 26, shared a voice note of one of the recording sessions for the song, and told her fans: ‘so many memories cool in my voice notes. however…. why did we call this first take of breathin’ “ball slapper”? #professionalism #songwriting #wewonagrammyafterthis???? i-‘

The singer, who is currently on her Sweetener world tour, went on to win a Grammy for the album this year, but we wonder if that would have happened had she unleashed ‘Ball Slapper’ onto the world.

Fans were quick to comment on the recording, which was done on 2 February 2018, saying: ‘who’s breathin?? I only know ball slapper’ and ‘breathin slapped me in the balls when I first heard it because it was so good’.

They were also keen to find out what the ‘possible intro’ she recorded was too, and just blown away that she sounded that amazing on a voice note.

Ariana revealed to Jimmy Fallon last year that the song is about getting through anxiety, explaining: ‘It’s about anxiety. You know when you feel like you can’t get a full breath, it’s like the worst feeling in the whole world.’

She told Vogue about her battle with anxiety last year, admitting: ‘My anxiety has anxiety… I’ve always had anxiety. I’ve never really spoken about it because I thought everyone had it, but when I got home from tour it was the most severe I think it’s ever been.’

The singer also tweeted: ‘isss ab my anxiety. i felt like i was floating for like 3 months last year & not in a nice way. like outside my body? was v scary and i couldn’t breathe well. so it’s ab that. & lots of voices in my head singin. i hope it comforts ppl who hear it pls’ [sic]

Well we have to admit, Breathin’ is a lot more comforting of a name than Ball Slapper.
