Ariana Grande became tearful on-stage while performing in her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller’s hometown this week nine months after his death.

The One Last Time singer brought her Sweetener World Tour to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Wednesday where Mac was from.

Mac died in September 2018 at the age of 26 following an accidental drug overdose, several months after his split from Ariana.

According to concert-goers, the 25-year-old singer played Mac’s music as fans piled into the stadium before her headline set.

During her performance, Ariana became overwhelmed with emotion while singing Raindrops (An Angel Cried), which is believed to have been written about the late rapper.

However, it was during her hit single Thank U, Next that Ariana became choked up and was unable to finish the song.

When singing the line: ‘Wish I could say “thank you” to Malcolm, cause he was an angel”, Ari’s voice broke and she stopped singing the rest of the verse to regain her composure.

But she continued performing the choreography like a true professional.

Ariana was uplifted by fans at the show who cheered and shouted words of encouragement when she was clearly emotional.

One supporter also tweeted after the show: ‘In this moment, the city of Pittsburgh’s love for Malcom shined through so so so much. Everyone in this arena screamed it. The most special thing I have ever been a part of,” one fan wrote after the concert.

‘We miss u. We love u.

‘Thank you for this, Ariana Grande. This city loves you [sic].’

Ariana Grande’s Sweetener World Tour continues at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on 14 June.
