Argos hikes price of hot tub by £100 two days after putting it on sale and claims it’s a ‘great new price’

ARGOS has been caught hiking the price of a popular hot tub by £100 just two days after putting it on sale – and claiming that it’s a “great new price”.

On July 4, the retailer slashed the price of the Paris Lay-Z Spa to £299.99 down from £401.99.

The retailer claimed that the £399 price tag was a "great new price"

The Sun reported on the deal as it saw the hot tub being sold for the cheapest price we’ve ever seen, making it a real money saver.

But by July 6, Argos had already pushed the price up to £399.99.

The move was spotted by an eagle-eyed Sun reader who noticed that the retailer had added a note in red underneath the inflated figure that said: “great new price”.

We ran a quick check on price monitoring site PriceHistory and found that the retailer has changed the cost of the same garden pool eight times already this year.

In January, it slashed the price to £600 down from £629.99. Since then the price has fluctuated between £600 and £299.99.

The cost changed three times in May, twice in June and already it’s been tweaked twice in July.

It’s not the first time Argos has been caught playing with prices.

Back in 2017, angry shoppers accused Argos of pushing up the price of toys on the same day its three for two sale launched following a “pricing error”.

The same six-person hot tub costs £599 if you buy it directly from the manufacturers or for £489.89 from Amazon.

Even though the price at Argos is still the cheapest we deal we could find on the outdoor spa, the retailer has stocked is for less before.

It’s a stark reminder of why it’s important to check prices before parting with your cash.

Sites like PriceHistory and CamelCamelCamel will be able to tell you if the product has been stocked for less before, while PriceSpy scans the web for cheaper deals with other retailers.

Since The Sun alerted Argos to the “great new price” claim it has removed it from the product page on the website.

A spokesperson said: “The Lay-Z Spa Paris hot tub standard catalogue price is £600. We regularly run promotions to offer the best possible choice and value.

“We’re sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

Morrisons has reduced the price of its Lay-Z Spa Miami by £50 down to £200 in time for the summer sun.

B&M has also slashed the cost of the same £250 hot tub, but only by £25, which means the deal at the supermarket is cheaper.

The same hot tub costs £250 at B&Q, or you’d have to fork out £349.99 by ordering from Very.co.uk.
