Are you brave enough to wear dressy gloves?

If you have been following the red carpet in recent times, you will have noticed that the humble glove is making a comeback.

Synonymous with winter days, gloves are an item of practicality.

Yet outside of leather options, they offer very little on the style front.

Warmth is by and large their only objective.

However, in times gone by, gloves were a fashion must. On red carpets of the 1950s to its elegant streets, very few women went without the accessory.

And as fashion likes to pay homage to the past, it was only a matter of time before gloves reappeared.

On the Met Gala red carpet last week, stars such as Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Yara Shahidi donned opera styles with their gowns and it has piqued our sartorial interest.

But are you brave enough to wear a dressy glove?

While it may seem terrifying, designers and retailers are beginning to implement gloves into top and dress designs.

Independent designer Paloma Lira has created a stretch crop top in black and galaxy print complete with attached gloves.

Meanwhile, Vetements and Miscreants have designed floral and velvet dresses, respectively, that are given an elegant twist by covering hands fully.

Unfortunately, as this look is hot off the catwalks and carpets, it doesn’t come cheap.

Nevertheless, you can achieve the look for less and in doing so, you also have more control over how far you take it.

Have a black mini dress at home that could do with a revamp? Pair it with some satin elbow length gloves.

Or maybe you have an upcoming event and want to make an impact? Try accessorising with opera mitts and be surprised at how good they look.

However, if you do truly fear the style moment, begin the journey with a simple black mid-length leather pair.

Wear underneath a wide-sleeved coat or oversized blazer and see how if feels.

Test the waters and challenge yourself.

And if it fails terribly and you can’t get on board, then keep them exclusively for functional means.

Because gloves on a freezing cold day never goes out of style.
