After an agonisingly long wait, The Hills: New Beginnings has finally landed and we can barely contain ourselves. Nine years after the OG reality TV series came to an end, it’s making a much-welcomed return to our screens with many of its original cast members in tow. One pair we’re thrilled to welcome back into our lives is Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, arguably one of the world’s most iconic reality TV couples.
When Heidi and Spencer first met on-screen in 2007, it’s safe to say they rocked the boat. Their tumultuous relationship caused a stir amongst their co-stars (cue LC’s infamous line: “I’m going to forgive you and I’m going to forget you”) and they quickly isolated themselves from the group. But over a decade later and the controversial couple are happily married, parents to one-year-old Gunner…and running a successful crystal empire.
You might not bat an eyelid given that crystals have become de rigeur in today’s wellness obsessed world, but Heidi and Spencer were promoting their benefits long before the rest of the world. They own the prosperous crystal business, Pratt Daddy Crystals, where rock formations are known to sell out within an hour, and they have been promoting their crystal-laden lifestyle on social media for many years – Heidi was reported to have $27,000 worth of them present during her son’s birth.
Spencer even claimed his extensive crystal collection was the reason behind the programme’s reboot: “I will give a lot of credit to crystals for the reboot of The Hills. I held a lot of crystals with a lot of positive intentions for eight years” he told Us Weekly. “It’s literally manifesting dreams ‘cause I never wanted The Hills to end, I’ll tell you that much”.
Fast forward ten years and the world has caught onto the crystal bandwagon. Celebrities swear by them, wellness gurus promote their life-changing benefits, and owning a rose quartz is about as normal as having an Instagram profile. This begs the question: are Heidi and Spencer the unlikely wellness icons of our generation?
Well, they’ve certainly helped us see the light.
