Aquaman 2: Patrick Wilson confirms King Orm's return

Patrick Wilson seems to have confirmed that he will be back in evil action for Aquaman 2, the sequel to James Wan’s watery DC Comics movie which introduced Wilson as the villainous King Orm (aka Oceanmaster) in 2018.

The first film in the splash-happy superpowered film franchise (which remains the only movie in the DC Extended Universe to make a billion dollars at the worldwide box office) saw Wilson’s Orm clashing with Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry in a battle for control over seven underwater kingdoms. Arthur ended up winning, after a big battle involving stupendously-sized sea creatures, but Orm lived to sulk another day.

And now, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Wilson appears to have confirmed that he will back for the sequel. Asked if he has been briefed on Orm-related matters for Wan’s planned Aquaman 2, Wilson offered this response: “Yeah! I’m slightly briefed. Of course, I want to know everything, but I also have a great respect for him and the process to know that I’m OK staying out of it until it’s late in the game.”

Wilson went on to compare his approach to acting to Wan’s approach to filmmaking, with both talented blokes apparently striving to push themselves forward, even when they’re working repeatedly in the same genre.

Wilson explained: “That’s James to a T. I can tell you that even his concepts for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further. Whatever that means. I have a few ideas of where Orm fits in, but I’m not gonna talk about them.” That’s fair enough, Patrick – spilling the beans would probably get you in trouble.

It will be interesting to see how exactly Orm slots into Aquaman 2 – will he be the big bad again, or more of a supporting threat? Or could there even be an Aquaman/Ocenmaster team-up on the cards? We’ll just have to wait and see. Or should that be wait and sea? Arf!

Aquaman 2 will arrive on these shores on 16 December 2022.
