Apple's iPhone XR2 may come in bright lavender and green finishes when it launches in September

Apple’s upcoming iPhone XR2 will come in bright neon lavender and green paint jobs when it launches in September, report claims

  • Rumours of the two new finishes originated in a report on a Japanese tech site
  • Releasing a lavender-coloured iPhone handset would be a novel choice for Apple
  • The blue and coral finishes available on the previous model may now be dropped
  • The iPhone XR2 range has been characterised by its striking colour options

Showing off a newly bought iPhone could make your friends’ faces green with envy or purple with rage — and now it seems you might be able to get a finish to match.

A report from a Japanese tech site claims that Apple will be releasing its upcoming iPhone XR2 model in both green and lavender finish options.

The XR2 — which is expected to launch in September 2019 — is the predecessor to to the equally-vibrantly coloured iPhone XR which premiered last year.

The report comes from the Japanese site MacOtakara, which has connections within the Apple product supply chain and accessory manufacturers in Asia.

The new colours are bold choices for Apple, which has never released an iPhone in lavender before.

The tech company did release an earlier model — the sixth-generation iPhone 5C, launched in 2013 — in a pastel green.

However, a green finish for the upcoming XR2 model would likely be much richer and vivid in colour, as is typical for the finishes seen in the original model of the iPhone XR range.

The presently-available iPhone XR is available in six similarly-vibrant colours: black, blue, coral, red, white and yellow.

However, the MacOtakara report suggests that, come the XR2 model, Apple will be ditching the blue and coral colours, possibly due to their not having seen as much interest in those hue variations.

It shall remain to be seen whether the new green and lavender models prove to be popular additions to the range.

The iPhone XR — which comes with an all-screen display featuring a 6.1 inch (15.4 centimetres) Liquid Retina LCD panel — was launched in the US in September and arrived in UK store in the following month.

The XR was the cheapest of the iPhone-range models released in 2018, with the lowest-spec version retailing at £749, compared to the £999–1,449 price tags of the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max which were launched at the same time.

Rumours also emerged last week that the iPhone XR2 will incorporate the large, square camera housing of the iPhone 11, but without the third lens featured in the latter and more expensive upcoming model.
