In an announcement today, the multi-million pound company said the faulty laptops were sold between September 2015 and February 2017.

The dud pieces of kit can be identified by their product serial number.

The recall doesn’t affect any other 15-inch MacBook Pro units or other Mac notebooks, Apple added.

A spokesman said: “Because customer safety is a top priority, Apple is asking customers to stop using affected 15-inch MacBook Pro units.

“Customers should visit apple.com/support/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall for details on product eligibility and how to have a battery replaced, free of charge.

“To confirm which model you have, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen.

“If you have ‘MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015),’ enter your computer’s serial number on the program page to see if it is eligible for a battery replacement.”

In April this year, Apple recalled their wall plug adaptors over fears that they could cause electrical shocks.

The three-prong AC wall plug are mainly designed for use in the UK, Ireland, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The adaptors were shipped between 2003 to 2010 with certain Mac and iOS devices and was also included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit.

Apple have alerted their customers to the recall on their website saying that the affected adaptors “may break and create a risk of electrical shock if exposed metal parts are touched”.

They added: “Customer safety is always Apple’s top priority, and we have voluntarily decided to exchange affected wall plug adaptors with a new adaptor, free of charge.

“We encourage customers to exchange their wall plug adaptor using the process below.”
