Apple debuts $799 iPhone 13 including new PINK color option and battery that lasts 2.5 hours longer

Apple has given the world the first look at its new iPhone 13 during its annual product event hosted live from its headquarters in Cupertino, California.

The 6.1-inch smartphone keeps the sleek design and ceramic front shield as its predecessor, but now boasts a diagonal camera lenses design for the new dual system.

The camera system captures 47 percent more light in a scene and includes the sensor shift stabilization that helps counterbalance any movement within the camera to take focused shots.

One of the latest and many iPhone 13 rumors said the smartphone would launch in a new pink color and that is what users can purchases – the new shade is also available for the iPhone 13 mini.

Customers can also purchases the iPhone 13 in blue, ‘midnight,’ ‘starlight’ and product red.

However, the largest upgrade is an increase in battery life: the iPhone 13 provides 2.5 more hours than the iPhone 12 and the iPhone mini gets 1.5 extra hours of power.

Apple hosted the event online for the second time since the coronavirus pandemic swept across the globe in 2020.

But the virus has not stopped the tech giant from sharing its latest and greatest products with the world.

Apple CEO Tim Cook strode through a slickly produced video Tuesday to launch a new iPhone, with few hints of the exceptional string of troubles facing his company including policy reversals, a spyware attack and legal fights.

Cook, from an empty, darkened auditorium, raved over upgraded cameras, brighter screens and new features for some of the Silicon Valley giant’s other devices like the iPad.

The latest device is also powered by Apple's new A15 Bionic Chip, the iPhone 13 includes an up to 50 percent faster CPU than the competition, along with delivering up to 30 percent faster graphics

‘These are the best iPhones we’ve ever created,’ Cook said, noting Apple’s work to design the ‘very best products and services to enrich people’s lives.’

The new iPhone 13 is not a completely redesigned Apple smartphone, but includes subtle changes that improves performance and user experience.

For example, the Face ID notch is 20 percent smaller than what is featured on the iPhone 12.

The iPhone 13 has six cores and a specialized portion for running artificial intelligence algorithms.

And the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini both have larger batteries to give them more power than their  predecessors.

The biggest change, which seems to come with each new iPhone, is the upgraded dual camera system, with one camera having a a larger sensor for a wider camera.

The iPhone 13 mini costs $699 and the iPhone 13 costs $799, which is the same prices as last year.

Some rumors leading up to the event speculated that the new devices could cost more due to the lingering chip shortage.

But, the smartphones now start with 128GB of storage space, an increase over last year.

Of course the iPhone 13 family would not be complete without the Pro and Pro Max, which Apple saved for the end of the event.

Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said in a statement: ‘iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max make up our most pro iPhone lineup ever with the biggest advancement for our camera system, the best battery life ever in an iPhone, and the fastest performance of any smartphone.

The Pro line-up is getting an makeover with an-all new flat-edge design and textured matte glass back.

Both are also powered by the A15 Bionic Chip, a larger battery and power optimizations.

iPhone 13 Pro will last up to one and a half hours longer in a day than iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max will last up to two and a half hours longer in a day than iPhone 12 Pro Max.

However, the iPhone Pro features 1TB of storage and is much cheaper than Samsung’s Galaxy S10 Plus that costs $1,600.

Despite the range of upgrades being less substantial than last year, industry experts said Apple had still unveiled a range that would appeal to older iPhone users thinking about upgrading.

‘The iPhone remains a core lucrative product for Apple as it represents a gateway to other devices and more importantly services,’ tech analyst Paolo Pescatore of PP Foresight said.

‘While many will see some upgrades as incremental, there are millions of users who have yet to upgrade to 5G. Therefore, this so-called ‘supercycle’ moment is still relevant.

‘The biggest challenge will be maintaining a premium for what some users will see as incremental upgrades. While the individual improvements may not seem to be much, collectively they will be significant in leading to the best iPhone experience for users.’

Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, agreed that the key improvements to the iPhone’s battery life and cameras would be an enticing prospect for many.

‘The new iPhones see Apple returning to the staples of battery life, screen technology, performance and camera capabilities, all of which are all attractive to existing customers looking to upgrade,’ he said.

‘People will be pleased Apple has resisted the temptation to bump up prices which it could have easily attributed to rising component costs.

‘It’s even increased the entry-level memory configuration on several products, including the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini and iPad.’
