Apex Legends Season 3 release date, Meltdown start time, World's Edge map, Crypto update

Apex Legends developer Respawn is getting ready to launch Season 3 on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The new Apex Legends season – which is titled Meltdown – has an October 1 release date for PC and consoles.

If past seasons and updates are anything to go by, the third season of Apex Legends will have a 6pm BST start time.

It will launch alongside a bumper new update with a lengthy list of patch notes and changes.

But more exciting is that Season 3 will usher in a brand new map called World’s Edge.

World’s Edge is found on the planet of Talos, and is said to be where molten heat and chemical ice collide.

As you can see from the exciting new gameplay trailer further down the page, it even contains a moving train, which should make for some interesting combat scenarios.

There’s also a river of lava, as well as a frozen industrial complex somewhere on the map.

One thing that isn’t quite clear is whether or not Kings Canyon will still be available alongside World’s Edge. Express Online will update this article when we have more information.

While the new map is undoubtedly the headline new feature, Season 3 will also introduce a new hero, weapon, Battle Pass and more.

Respawn describes new character Crypto as cool, calm and collected with plenty of secrets to uncover.

“Hack the system in our latest Stories from the Outlands,” reads a recent Crypto trailer description.

“A strange hidden file. A deadly mistake. And a new Legend who is entering the fight, but looking to stay out of the spotlight. Cool, calm, and collected, Crypto has plenty of secrets to keep, and more to uncover.”

Crypto’s abilities haven’t been officially revealed, although leaked game files and Respawn hints have given fans an idea about what to expect.

The new Legend will take advantage of a couple of tactical drones to survey the battlefield and do some damage.

The tactical aerial drone will reportedly be able to hack doors, loot bins and pick up banners, while the weapon drone will blast enemies, slow enemies and disable traps.

A passive neuro link will also let Crypto and teammates see what the surveillance drone detects.

Needless to say, Season 3 will launch alongside a Battle Pass with over 100 exclusive items to unlock.

Players will also be able to check out the Charge Rifle, which is described as a powerful directed-energy weapon.

“Carve your way across the Arena with this obliterating directed-energy weapon,” Respawn explains.

Elsewhere, a new series of Ranked mode will be available for hardcore players to test their skills in.
