Anya Hindmarch's new must-have collection for Uniqlo — no Perelló or Heinz logos, but lovely cashmeres

She’s London’s queen of quirky bags and off-beat sweaters — but fashion designer Anya Hindmarch also knows the power of a good bargain. It’s for this reason the woman now most famous for her sequin cocktail clutches brandished with smiley faces or tongue-in-cheek Perelló olive or Heinz ketchup branding, has designed a second collaboration with Uniqlo, the Japanese retailer, out next week.

Last November, her line of knitwear, jumpers and accessories complete with her trademark, side-eye motif, flew off the high street giant’s shelves. “We had such a strong reaction to the first collection, it really was amazing,” she says. And so, more!

“We have played with their iconic silhouettes, deconstructing, and then rebuilding with darning stitches, knitted-in patches and unexpected details. We have also introduced outerwear for the first time,” Hindmarch says of the collaboration’s second wind.

It spans jolly cashmere sweaters with darning stitches and knitted patches (£109.90), pink and navy merino jumpers with eyes on sleeves and holes for thumbs (£34.90), off-kilter cardigans (£39.90), cashmere beanies (£39.90), mittens (£19.90) and knitted scarves (£24.90). There are darling pieces for kids — the mini-merinos are particularly sweet — and, as Hindmarch said, new “PUFFERTECH” coats (£79.90), which look like puffer drill jackets and are available in navy and olive. “I’m wearing mine constantly at the moment,” Hindmarch says. “It’s all about comfort and joy!”

A particular favourite of mine, though? Fingerless gloves with eyes above slits, allowing for strange thumb tongues. “I love them,” she says. “I think they are playful and practical in equal measure.”
