Anton Du Beke: ‘I’m honoured’ Strictly star talks surprising first on show after 17 series

Strictly Come Dancing 2019 professional Anton Du Beke, 53, caught up with Joe Sugg, 28, on the Strictly Come Dancing podcast last weekend.

Within the episode, the YouTuber revealed how he had helped with Will Bayley’s spray tan before the show on Saturday.

After overhearing the chat, Anton revealed he’d had his first ever spray tan done on the show at the beginning of the series.

He said: “This is my 17th series of doing Strictly Come Dancing, which is a delight and thrill for me.

“I’m honoured to have been on the show since the beginning, I’m the only professional left,” he added before joking: “That’s all I wanted to say.”

He then added: “Having said that, I’ve never in my whole life as a dancer, professional and amateur, ever had a spray tan until the beginning of this series.”

Turning to Joe, he said the former finalist was “all over” the spray tans when he competed on the show with Dianne Buswell, 30, last year.

This series, Anton is partnered up with EastEnders star Emma Barton, 42.

So far, the pair have been impressing the judges and public with their performances and have avoided the dreaded dance off.

Last weekend, Anton and Emma performed a Viennese Waltz to Send in the Clowns by Barbra Streisand.

Their emotional performance was scored 35 out of 40 points by judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood.

Elsewhere, Anton Du Beke recently shared his thoughts on former judge Arlene Phillips.

The latter was on the panel from 2004 for five years alongside Len Goodman, Bruno and Craig.

But, the professional dancer was replaced by Alesha Dixon, 41, after she won the BBC show in 2007.

Anton shared his thoughts on the move, telling Express.co.uk producers should “never” have let Arlene go.

He said: “They should have never got rid of Arlene Phillips. I’m such an admirer of hers. But I suppose they couldn’t ask her back.

“I don’t want an ex-contestant on the panel,” he continued. “All they can offer is observations along the lines that they know how the celebrity feels because they were in the same position.

“Unless you’ve been a professional dancer, there’s no place for you on a judging panel.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues this Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.

The Strictly Come Dancing podcast is available to listen to on BBC Sounds.
