Anthony Martial shows off gruesome injury after Man Utd goal in Man City win

Anthony Martial showed off a gruesome-looking injury after helping Manchester United to a third win of the season over neighbours City.

Martial fired United ahead half an hour into Sunday’s Manchester derby, with City keeper Ederson failing to deal with his volley after a quick free-kick from Bruno Fernandes.

Ederson was again at fault for United’s second goal, as Scott McTominay made sure of the points in added time with a fine long-range hit following a poor throw from the City keeper.

Martial was uncharacteristically aggressive throughout the game, and almost doubled United’s lead early in the second half.

The French forward nearly scored as he chased down a poor touch from Ederson, who endured a nightmare derby.

Ederson managed to clear his lines, but caught Martial who ended up lying in the goal in pain.

Later on, a picture was shared on Twitter which appeared to show a nasty-looking gash in Martial’s leg. The tweet later appeared to have been deleted.

The 24-year-old, who has upped his game in the absence of Marcus Rashford, played on but was eventually replaced by fellow goalscorer McTominay 12 minutes from time.

Martial will now be a doubt for the first leg of United’s Europa League last-16 clash against LASK in Austria on Thursday.

United’s 2-0 win meant they completed a league derby double over City for the first time since the 2009/10 season, having won 2-1 at the Etihad in December.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side got the better of their neighbours at the Etihad for a second time the following month, winning 1-0 in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

However, it was not enough to progress as City had triumphed 3-1 in the Old Trafford leg, and Pep Guardiola’s side went on to win the competition for a third season in succession with a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in last weekend’s Wembley final.
