Warrington have suspended centre Anthony Gelling after he was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.
Cheshire Police have confirmed they received a report of an assault at an address in Widnes on Saturday and that a 29-year-old man had been detained and later released on conditional bail.
In a statement, Warrington said Gelling was the subject of a club investigation into his “conduct away from the club”.
He will not be available for selection until the investigation is complete.
Warrington said the Cook Islands international, who joined the club from Widnes on a two-year contract in September, was “fully supportive of the investigation”.
“The club and player will be making no further comment at this time,” their statement added.
Cheshire Police said a man had been “arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent”.
“He has been questioned by detectives and released on conditional bail. Enquiries into the assault remain ongoing,” a police statement added.
Gelling has featured in both of Wolves’ Super League matches so far this season.
He previously played for Wigan over the course of five years and helped them to win the 2016 Grand Final against Warrington.
After a short stint in NRL with New Zealand Warriors, he spent last season with Championship side Widnes before linking up with the Wire for the current campaign.
