Ant McPartlin says ‘life is too short’ to hold a grudge against his estranged dad

Ant McPartlin addressed his recent reconciliation with his estranged father in his upcoming documentary, revealing that he believes “life is too short” to hold a grudge.

The TV presenter’s father Raymond, 64, walked out on his mother Christine Woodhall and their three children when the star was 10 years old.

Woodhall brought up McPartlin and his two sisters Emma and Sarha as a single mother.

The I’m A Celebrity host said that he has not seen his dad “for a long while” but resumed contact with him recently through text messages and phone calls.

“My dad left the family when I was about 10 and I’ve seen him sporadically over the years,” he said during his new ITV documentary Ant & Dec’s DNA Journey, which sees him and presenting partner Declan Donnelly explore their family histories.

“I haven’t seen him for a long while now,” he added. “We didn’t speak for quite a while… but last year we started texting each other and I spoke to him on the phone for my birthday, which was lovely.

“To be fair, life is too short. There is no point holding grudges or anything like that. You get to that age… I turned 40 and I just thought ‘Let’s stop messing about, let’s get in touch because you never know what’s going to happen.’”

McPartlin previously revealed that he had reached out to his father in an interview with Guardian Weekend in March.

“My dad and I didn’t speak for a long time, but we’re talking again now, which is great,” he told the magazine.

“He’s good, he’s funny. I’m slowly getting to know him again.

“He’s a proud man, a worker, a plumber. I’m thrilled that I’m back in touch.”
