Ant and Dec hint at SMTV revival 'later this year' 30 years after bursting onto screens

TV legends Ant and Dec have teased the potential of an SMTV Live revival happening “later this year” as they get ready to celebrate three decades on-screen together.

The Geordie pair presented the Saturday morning show alongside Cat Deeley from August 1998 until December 2003.

Rumours have been swirling over the past few years about the potential of SMTV Live hitting screens once again but the pair opened up at the National Television Awards on Tuesday, hinting that it could be coming sooner than fans think.

Speaking to Radio Times, Dec, 43, said: “Watch this space! We might do something a little bit later in the year but we’ll let you know when we’ve got more firm plans.”

The new year is expected to be a big one for the best friends, who are celebrating working together for three decades.

When the publication asked Ant what they had planned, he said: “We’ve got [Saturday Night] Takeaway starting very soon, we’re working on that and putting the finishing touches to that, it starts very soon.

Britain’s Got Talent is back, we’re working on that. Then back off to the jungle again for I’m A Celebrity at the end of the year.

“And that’s series 20 which we mentioned so that’s going to be a big one.”

Dec went on to add: “Series 20 for I’m A Celebrity [… Get Me Out Of Here!] and that will be the 30th year me and Ant have been working together so it’s our 30th anniversary so we might do something for that later on in the year.”

This exciting news comes after the pair once again broke records at the NTAs and bagged the Best Presenter award for the 19th year.

It’s believed that this will be a “big year” for the pair

Addressing the star-studded crowd, Ant said: “On the way in we had our usual chat about this being the year we don’t win it, and we were like ‘look it’s been a great run, we’re very lucky to do what we do’ and then you go and do this to us again.

“Thank you, we are more grateful and more humble as the years go on and we really do thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
