Barcelona have a new record-breaker amongst their midst after 16-year-old Ansu Fati became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer during their game against Osasuna.

Fati made his first-team debut for Barcelona during their 5-2 victory against Real Betis in the opening game of the La Liga season last weekend and was called upon again on Saturday.

After seeing his side go into half-time a goal down to Osasuna after Roberto Torres’ strike, Ernesto Valverde turned to his bench to bring Fati on in place of right-back Nelson Semedo.

It proved to be an inspired decision by the Barcelona coach as Fati scored just six minutes after the restart, rising impressively to head home a Carles Perez from the right-wing.

Not only did the goal come at a crucial point in the game, but it also ensured that Fati entered Barcelona’s record books breaking the previous milestone set by Bojan Krkic in October 2007.

At the age of 16 years and 304 days, Fati also became the third-youngest goalscorer in La Liga, behind Athletic Club’s Iker Muniain and Fabrice Olinga, formerly of Celta Vigo.

Barcelona soon went in front through Arthur following another assist from Perez – himself a Barcelona academy graduate – before being pegged back again by Torres from the penalty spot.

Unfortunately for Fati, his debut goal was overshadowed slightly as Barcelona were unable to seal a victory at Estadio El Sadar after being held 2-2 by their newly-promoted hosts.
