Anne Hegerty Twitter: The Chase star blames ‘brain fart’ for Coronation Street mistake

Anne Hegerty, 60, took to Twitter to defend a recent error that she made on The Chase, putting it down to an unexpected “brain f**t”. The brainy quizzer is known for her expertise in general knowledge on the ITV game show, but The Governess surprisingly failed to recall a particularly popular piece of Coronation Street trivia this week. The awkward moment occurred when Anne was faced with a question about one of the ITV show’s most iconic characters, Bet Lynch. The Chaser unfortunately failed to remember that the Rovers Return Inn’s barmaid was played by actress Julie Goodyear, 77.

Anne’s slip-up was highlighted by a fan of the soap, who tweeted: “Oh no! The Chaser @anne_hegerty forgot who played Bet Lynch in Coronation Street!

“Do you know the answer? Bet you all do! Lol #CorrieChase #Corrie #TheChase.”

Another viewer then illustrated the star’s mistake with an appropriate Game of Thrones GIF, which showed Cersei Lannister’s (played by Lena Headey) memorable walk of shame.

Following playful teasing from fans, Anne finally spoke out on the issue in view of her 122,000 followers.

She described her failure to remember the correct answer as: “A momentary brain-f**t!”

Fortunately, Anne’s fans empathised with her temporary lapse in knowledge.

One jokingly responded: “I’ve been having one of those for 36 years.”

In spite of the TV personality’s mishap, she continued to display her sharp wit on the social media platform.

Later that evening, Anne took the opportunity to respond to one of her followers who wondered if she ever struggles on The Chase.

The viewer asked: “@anne_hegerty on the Chase, do you sometimes go totally mind blank?”

The quizzer confidently replied: “Not really. Certainly it would be a very rare occurrence.”

Elsewhere, Anne amused fans after pointing out an error made by actor Simon Naylor in reference to BBC drama, Bodyguard.

Simon initially tweeted to his 4,577 followers: “Managed to watch #Bodyguard last night… finally! Late as usual! Loved it.

“Yeah it’s classic spy/police thriller & parts of it could/would never happen! But I loved it!”

He then added: “You only have to change 3 letters to make Budd, Bond! He should take ace @NinaToussaint with him too!”

In response, Anne issued an astute retort, writing: “Two letters, Simon. You only have to change two letters.”

The Chase continues tonight at 5pm on ITV.
