The ‘Red Wall’ MP claimed she lost a bet and Labour-supporting friends made her wear the T-shirt.

In a message put out on Facebook, she said there was “no mocking” of Jones saying she was sorry for “causing offence”.

She added: “People have got the wrong end of the stick here. I have apologised to Graham.

“There was no mocking of him, it was a Secret Santa present and in fact mocked me.”

Britcliffe was one of Boris Johnson’s new MPs from the north of England – breaking Labour’s Red Wall – to win her seat and give the PM an 80-seat majority.

Labour won the seat in 1992 and has held on to it until the election in December.

Jones was first elected in the Hyndburn, Lancashire, seat in 2010 with a 3,000 majority.

Despite a majority of more than 5,000 in 2017, he was hit by a 9.9 per cent swing against Labour that led to the defeat.

Mr Jones last night said: “I’ve done everything possible to help the new MP.

“This is a disgraceful and childish action. It’s unbefitting of an MP.

“Her colleagues have my number yet she’s still not apologised.”
