‘Angry’ Amanda Holden says Caroline Flack was ‘thrown to the dogs’ following arrest as presenter dies aged 40

Amanda has shared her anger at how Caroline was treated up to her death

Amanda Holden has shared her anger at the details surrounding Caroline Flack’s death, saying she believed the former Love Island presenter was ‘thrown to the dogs’ following her arrest for in December.

Caroline, 40, died by suicide on Saturday, 18 days before she was due to face trial after being charged with assault following a row with her boyfriend, Lewis Burton. She had denied the charge.

Over the weekend Amanda shared a photo of herself with Caroline, as she shared her devastation at hearing the sad news.

However, the Britain’s Got Talent host was also keen for the truth to come out, believing there to be more to Caroline’s story.

‘Utterly devastated to hear of the sudden death of this funny bright beautiful young girl,’ Amanda wrote on Instagram. ‘My heart goes out to her family. For Caroline to feel that death was the only way out breaks my heart.’

While Amanda didn’t name anyone in particular, she continued: ‘Anger doesn’t even begin to cover how I feel about her being thrown to the dogs like she was.

‘There are criminal gaps in the differences.’

Amanda added: ‘I am certain there is more to her story… I know the truth will out.

‘May she rest in peace and those responsible for this lack of humanity be brave enough to admit their shame.’

It’s not clear if Amanda is referring to ITV, the network that produces Love Island, as well as Britain’s Got Talent, however Laura Whitmore insisted the show is not the problem – after many began calling for ITV to can the reality programme.

‘The problem wasn’t the show, the show to work on is loving, and caring and safe, and protective. The problem is the outside world is not,’ she said on her 5 Live show yesterday.

Caroline had stepped down from presenting the current winter series of Love Island after the alleged assault.

The ITV programme did not air on Saturday or Sunday night, but will be back on Monday with a tribute to the former presenter – who was replaced by Laura.

An ITV spokeswoman said on Sunday night: ‘Many people at ITV knew Caroline well and held her in great affection. All of us are absolutely devastated at this tragic news.

‘After careful consultation between Caroline’s representatives and the Love Island production team and given how close we still are to the news of Caroline’s tragic death we have decided not to broadcast tonight’s Love Island out of respect for Caroline’s family.

‘Love Island will return tomorrow night which will include a tribute to Caroline who will be forever in our hearts.’

The shock news prompted a flood of tributes from celebrities. But it also brought questions about the decision to persist with prosecuting Flack for the alleged assault on her boyfriend, and about the pressures faced by TV celebrities from the press and social media.

Her management company criticised the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for pressing ahead with what it called her ‘show trial’ even after her boyfriend said he did not support it.

The tragedy has put the spotlight back on the pressures which come with TV celebrity as Caroline is the fourth person linked to the ITV2 dating programme to have died by suicide.
