Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes has suggested he’ll remain at the club for at least the remainder of the season.

The 19-year-old raised eyebrows this week by deleting the club from his Instagram bio and removing a number of United-related posts.

Gomes was handed his first team debut at the age of 16 and has long been tipped to be the next star to emerge from United’s academy.

However, he was left out of United’s squad to face AZ Alkmaar last Thursday and he’s yet to agree a new deal on his contract, which expires at the end of the season.

Gomes had been expected to feature in United’s League Cup clash against Colchester but he was also left out of that squad.

Nevertheless, speaking ahead of that game, Gomes suggested his head remains at the Theatre of Dreams by saying he’s keen on getting more ‘opportunities’ as the season goes on.

‘It’s a big squad and a long season and it’s just making sure you’re ready and right for when the opportunities come,’ Gomes told MUTV.

‘It’s (the game) another opportunity and any opportunity you get you look to take. It will be a great occasion at home and I’m just looking forward to it now.’

United had hoped to tie Gomes down to a new long-term deal by now but his omission from recent squads shows that talks have stalled.

Barcelona have held a interest in the midfielder for the last two years and could sign him on a pre-contract agreement in January.
